So when I had the chance to take Phil on a condensed two week tour of my home country, I didn't hesitate. It was a great excuse to show off the land of the long white cloud and all it's beauty. We had two weeks - one in the north island and one in the south island.
Our North Island itinerary went a bit like this:
Arrive Auckland, head to Tauranga (family duties), then onto Rotorua, Waitomo Caves, Lake Taupo and finally windy Wellington.
One of the many highlights we had in the north was the Lake Tama hike. As we visited in the dead of winter - the Tongariro Crossing was not going to happen unless we had cleats, snow grips, an ice axe or Gandalf. So we had to choose something a bit more doable. Turns out, the Tama Lakes and Taranaki Falls hike is one of the most beautiful in the area. Just check out these photos...
North Island Summary:
Stayed: Family and friends
Ate: Cobb'n'Co in Rotorua
Coffeed: The Med Cafe in Tauranga
Also adventured: Te Puia Thermal Park, Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park (we went at night for the kiwi viewing) and the good ol' Waitomo Caves.
