We decided to head out to Warburton one day for a local adventure. Warburton is about an hour north east of Melbourne. If you head towards Healesville you’re on the right track. It’s a beautiful little town with the Yarra River running through it.
We have been to Warburton once before and did a short walk through Mount Donna Buang, but this time I had forests and waterfalls in mind with our British friends.
First stop was breakfast and coffee at Cog Café. This is such an amazing café and I keep saying we will go back and we haven’t (yet). Make sure you stop here to fuel any adventures you have in the area.
Second stop was a small chunk of redwoods that looked as magical as it does in pictures as it does in real life. These trees were planted in the 1930’s and can be found off Cement Creek Road, just passed the township on Warburton Highway. If you’re lucky you will see the giant wood birds nest that someone must have made (and spent a whole day making at that) and it gives the forest a real fantasy feel.
Last stop was La La Falls. Located just off Old Warburton Road the walk to La La Falls is 3.2km return and is all uphill. It can get slippery, so again take gumboots, or prepare to slide back down on your butt.
It was such a fun day getting out in the wilderness with new friends and finding these little gems so close to home. Next time we head out there I will be visiting the Toorongo Falls near Mt Baw Baw – but that will be a future adventure tale.
Ate and coffeed: Cog Café – Seriously check it out! http://cogbikecafe.com.au/
Stayed: It was a day adventure, so we got to sleep in our own comfy bed.
Until next time,
