Our time started in Mount Maunganui, part of my home town and one of the most classics walk in New Zealand (yeap, I’m calling it!). Whether you walk up the ‘Mount’ as it’s typically called or if you walk around it, it is beautiful and picturesque. If you’re really lucky, you will have your own little Fantail bird tour guide. I am not biased at all - check out the photos
The next stop was Whiritoa to drop in on some extended family. Whiritoa reminded me of what Coromandel towns were like when I was young - small, sleepy beach towns. These days the coromandel has grown and turned into a mecca for holiday goers every summer. My uncle told us to complete the Whiritoa to Waimama Bay hike. It took us 30 minutes to get there (and back), and we had the beach to ourselves for some quiet morning meditation and photos. The hike over is 2km return.
Geez, this has turned into an epic post, I will cover the western coast of the Coromandel in another post.
But as always, the basics:
Stayed: With our amazing friends and family.
Adventured: East coast of the NZ Coromandel Peninsula
