We decided to go down to Great Ocean Road, in part because Phil’s Christmas present was the zip line experience in Otway National Park. The Zip Line Eco Tour is a 2.5 hour, fully guided experience and including 8 cloud stations, 6 flights and 2 suspension bridges. It is also the only zip line tour in Victoria!
We headed off on Saturday morning to get to Otway Fly by midday via Hopetoun Falls. One of four waterfalls we would visit that day. Then it was fly time!
Review: The experience is quite expensive for what it is, but I loved how safe and easy it was once you were all kitted up and ready to go. We were in a group of 8 with a guide who helped us the whole way. It was pretty cool being up in these trees, especially when you finally comprehend how old they really are (note: they are older than your grandmothers grandmothers grandmother).
Following the zip lining we had three other waterfalls to check out before checking in to our special accommodation (more on this later) We visited Little Aire Falls, Triplet Falls, and finally Beauchamp which was my favourite of all of them (even though I fell over and got a dirty butt).
We started driving towards where we were staying for the evening and went past the Aire Valley Reserve which had a small park of these beautiful Redwoods. It was majestic – like something from a fairy tale. I didn’t want to leave but it was getting dark and I was hungry.
We arrived at our final destination for the day – Pebble Point Retreat. A glamping experience based at the start of the Twelve Apostles. We stayed in a luxury tent with our own private bathroom, with a view of the Gellibrand River. I highly recommend it.
After our restful stay, we headed off to see the sights of the Twelve Apostle and the coastline of the Great Ocean Road. We started with Gibson Steps and went all the way to the Grotto (past Port Campbell) and decided to come back inland via Timboon (there’s a whiskey distillery there). It was a big day!
