Rottnest island is a small island off the coast of Perth, Western Australia. Rottnest means “rats nest” in Dutch and was named due to the presence of Quokkas which are small marsupial animals.
To get to Rottenest Island you can catch one of the many regular ferries from Fremantle (25mins) or the Perth CBD (90min).
We left for Rottnest Island from Fremantle around 9am so we could make the most of the day. When we got there we went straight to hire a bike so we could get around the island. No cars are permitted, so you have to either cycle, walk or catch the tourist bus. The Island is about 11km long and 4km ride with easy roads to ride around. The roads are used by mostly bike riders but there are also some tourist buses.
I would recommend everyone should visit Rottnest (not all at once guys!) and remember to never feed native animals .
